Karen Karlin is a Member at the firm. Her practice includes medical malpractice and health care litigation, HIPAA compliance, and medical licensing, staff privileges & credentialing. Ms. Karlin is a member of the Bars of Maryland and the District of Columbia, and is admitted to the United States District Courts of Maryland and the District of Columbia, as well as the United States Supreme Court.
Ms. Karlin received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University of Connecticut in 1987 and law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1994. Prior to and during law school, Ms. Karlin worked as a legal reporter in Washington, D.C. for two law report publishing companies, the Commerce Clearing House, Inc. and the Research Institute of America. Following graduation from law school, Ms. Karlin was a law clerk for the Honorable Richard A. Levie in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
Ms. Karlin entered private practice in 1995, practicing in the field of insurance defense litigation. She was a partner at Hamilton Altman Canale & Dillon until joining Gleason, Flynn, Emig & McAfee as Of Counsel in 2013 and was promoted to Member in 2015.
Ms. Karlin brings meticulous attention to detail to all of her cases. She excels at case management and working with clients to meet their needs in all respects. She has participated in numerous reported opinions from the District of Columbia Court of Appeals and the Maryland Court of Special Appeals relating to various legal issues.
In her free time, Ms. Karlin enjoys spending time with her daughter, volunteering at school, traveling and running.
